Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra (FDCM) has introduced retail sale of teak, miscellaneous wood, bamboo and poles on experimental basis at its depot at Ballarshah from last week. The materials that remained unsold in three consecutive auctions are made available for retail sale. Now, the local farmers, carpenters, people interested in using the timber/poles while constructing houses and other users can take benefit of the facility at the Timber Depot at Ballarshah.

The material not fetching upset price during three auctions is put on sale at lower prices by the Divisional Manager with sanction from the higher authorities. The first retail sale for the materials was held at the depot from May 23 to 30. The authorities will hold retail sale of woods every month from 23 to 30. Interested persons in purchasing the materials can get details on the notice board and also on e-auction portail of FDCM. The transparent retail sale of the rejected materials during three auctions is now organised for easy purchase to local people. The sale is on ‘first come first serve’ basis and the persons would be required to deposit the amount. There is no competition as such but the purchasers would go through the list of materials/lots and select the small lot or lots.

The quality of rejected or unsold timber or other logs gets degraded if the lots are kept for long time in the depot. This attempt is to sell such materials at the acceptable prices while farmers, carpenters and other local people would get an impression that they got the materials at a reasonable price. Navalkishor Reddy, Divisional Manager, FDCM, Markanda, inaugurated the programme on May 23 at the depot in presence of Vinay Punse, Divisional Manager, Sanjay Nandanwar, Assistant Manager, Baldeosingh Chandel, local purchasers and others. This was disclosed by P G Naokarkar, Divisional Manager, FDCM (TurnKey), Nagpur, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ here on Thursday.

He said that only two lots worth Rs 5,000 were sold on the opening day. He hoped that FDCM would get increasing response once local people come to know about retail sale in the depot. FDCM would introduce such retail sale of materials at different depots, depending on the response from the locals. Previously, on the spot acutions were held at different depots. FDCM introduced e-auction from 2017. The purchasers are not required to actually participate in the auction as the process has been made online, Naokarkar pointed out.
