Raising issues pertaining to harassment against SC/ST and poor students at the ace Guru Ghasidas Central University, Bilaspur, Janta Congress Chhattisgarh (Jogi) Founder President Ajit Jogi and President Amit Jogi has stated that it is a matter of utter shame that the central university, which has been named after Guru Ghasidas, is harassing students from Satnami community. They said their party will not allow creation of another ‘Rohith Vemula’ in the country. Both Ajit and Amit Jogi said while addressing a press conference in the capital said Guru Ghasidas was the founder of the Satnami community. They said Guru Ghasidas had experienced the evils of caste system fought on behalf of caste-ridden society and for rejecting social inequality.

They alleged that injustice has been meted against a student Ganesh Kumar Koshle (SC) by not giving him admission for Ph D course despite having eligibility and necessary qualification. Raising up the issue of a student Ganesh Kumar Koshle (27), son of Santram Koshle, a resident of village Kosmunda in Janjgir-Champa district, Ajit and Amit Jogi in a joint press conference said, Ganesh despite from being a poor student from Scheduled Caste community, had achieved 70 percent marks in MA (History) and 68.5 percent marks in Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya Research Entrance Test (GGVRET). Thereafter, Ganesh Kumar Koshle was asked to appear before the DRC for personal interview/presentation through a notification issued on April 12, 2019.

Accordingly, Ganesh appeared before the DRC on April 26 at 12 noon for interview for taking admission for carrying out Research (Ph D) on ‘Sabaria/Saura’ primitive tribe. It is worth mentioning here that two seats have been reserved for SC candidates for Ph D by DRC. Jogi stated that the three member DRC comprising of Dr Pradeep Shukla, Dr Seema Pandey and Dr Ghanshyam Dubey, didn’t have any SC/ST/OBC Member on the board.

Thereafter, the result of interview was published on April 30, 2019. It may be mentioned here that under SC category, three candidates had applied, of which, only two had appeared, against which only one candidate Parivesh Burman was selected while another seat was left vacant. The Jogis further alleged that the Commerce, Management Studies, Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication, Library and Information departments had published the marks obtained by candidates in interview but the History department didn’t publish the same nor it made available the list of candidates who’re in waiting list.

They added that as per the principles of natural justice, every candidate irrespective of his caste, he or she has the right to know the marks obtained. Ajit and Amit Jogi further claimed that the candidate Ganesh Kumar Koshle, if achieved zero marks in interview, will be eligible for the Ph D course as per laid down norms. They said they have already submitted a memorandum to the Vice Chancellor and if justice is not prevailed in favour of Ganesh Kumar, they would be approaching the high office of Chancellor, here President of India, being Guru Ghasidas University is a central university. They will also gherao the university and Vice Chancellor for justice.
