MSEDCL activates 46 solar pumps to help farmers

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has activated 46 solar pumps so far, which will help the farmers getting power supply during day time. The scheme for installation of solar pumps was introduced with the aim of making available power during day time and also for eliminating electricity bills. The area under irrigation can be increased with the help of solar pumps.
 

 
 
MSEDCL, in a press note issued here, has stated that the work of installation of solar pumps has been undertaken on priority basis. Chief Minister devendra Fadnavis, Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and CMD of MSEDCL sanjeev Kumar are keen to popularise the scheme in an efort to solve a major problem of farmers. Out of 38,624 applications received, 23,169 were approved. MSEDCL issued demand notes to 6,520 applicant farmers.
 
In all 3,911 have deposited the required amount and a list of 3,430 applicants has been forwarded to the contractors for further action. Site inspection reports of 1,570 have been received by the contractors. The 46 solar pumps are from Washim - 15, Amravati - 9, Gondia - 3 and Nagpur - 19. Under the scheme, for 3 HP unit the 10% amount to be deposited - general category - Rs 16,560, SC/ST - Rs 8,280. For 5 HP unit General Category applicants will have to deposit Rs 24,710 and SC/St category applicants - Rs12,355. The units will be made available on ‘first come first served’ basis. Besides ensuring uniterupted power supply and no electric bill, expenditure on diesel will be saved.
