Renuka Singh takes oath as MoS in Modi cabinet

Newly-elected Member of Parliament from Surguja Parliamentary constituency, Renuka Singh Saruta was sworn-in as Union Minister of State (MoS) in the cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the swearing-in ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Thursday. Earlier, speculation was rife in the political circles of Chhattisgarh that since Renuka Singh had received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office to participate in the high tea hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence at 4.30pm, she might be inducted in the Union cabinet.
 
 
Later, with the announcement of her name during swearing-in ceremony, it was confirmed that Chhattisgarh got a representation in the Union Cabinet with rehuka Singh being inducted as a minister in the Union cabinet. Coming from Gond Tribe, Renuka Singh was made candidate from Surguja (ST) Lok Sabha constituency by the Bharatiya Janata Party. In an exciting contest, Renuka Singh defeated veteran Congress leader Khel Sai Singh by a margin of 1,57,873 votes.
 
Educated till Higher Secondary, Renuka Singh represents the Scheduled Tribe community from tribal dominated Chhattisgarh. A resident of Ramanujnagar in Surajpur district under Surguja Lok Sabha, she was first elected as Member of Ramanujnagar Janpad Panchayat in 2000-03. She was also appointed Member Social Welfare Board (2001-2003). She was later elected as Legislator from Premnagar Assembly segment in 2003 and was made Minister of State (Independent Charge) Women, Child Welfare and Social Welfare Department. She was Vice Chairman of Surguja and North Area Tribal Development Authority from 2005-08 and from 2008-13. She was again elected as Legislator from Premnagar in 2008.
