One held for duping woman of Rs 16 lakh

ONE was arrested on charges of cheating involving Rs 16 lakh in Nehru Nagar, Bhilai on Friday. The accused was remanded to jail from the court following his arrest.

Police sources informed that the accused was identified as Kuldeep Narayan (36), a resident of Anushka Residency, Nehru Nagar, Bhilai. In her complaint, the victim Devantin Soni, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, Risali, Bhilai alleged that since January 2017 to February 2019, she paid Rs 16 lakh to the accused Kuldeep Narayan for investment in mutual funds and the amount was paid in various installments by the victim through online cash transfers in bank account of the accused. The cheating crime came to fore when the victim learnt that the accused invested whole of paid amount in the mutual funds on his name. The victim in this cheating case also alleged that on being insisted to repay the amount in question accused issued the bank cheque of Rs 3 lakh to the victim but it got dishonoured when presented for payment. The victim finally lodged complaint at Newai Police Station for seeking justice in the matter. While acting on complaint, police registered the offence against the accused under section 420 of Indian Penal Code and initiated investigation for ascertaining facts of the cheating case.
 
While confirming details, Gourav Tiwari, Station House Officer, Newai Police Station informed that in the course of preliminary investigation police established the cheating charges against the accused and arrested him from his house. The police are investigating the matter to ascertain the facts of cheating case beyond doubt and for further legal action in the matter, SHO, Tiwari added.
