Thrilling aero-modelling show organised under the aegis of ‘The Hitavada’ Twinkle Club, enthralled a huge gathering of children and parents at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) Football grounds on Sunday. Parents and children made a beeline at the venue to witness the show which had six different kinds of flying models of aeroplanes, neatly parked on the ground. Talking to The Hitavada, Amol Raut, one of the members of the group of aero-modellors, explained the specifics of the models like the big plane, ‘Tele Master’, a high wing basic trainer in its original form, whose model is being used for towing a banner. The aeroplane is used for advertising.

On Sunday, the plane brilliantly displayed The Hitavada banner in the sky. The aeroplane made a perfect take off and after making some low passes, came in for a landing on the grass strip of the ground. The ‘Hexa Copter’, a drone with arrangement to carry leaflets at its bottom, was one that caused the flutter. It took off vertically and came over the children’s enclosure when its hatch opened up to drop coloured paper strips to welcome the. This was followed by a surprise item when the drone bombarded the area with chocolates. ‘Sentosa’ was the next model to fly.

It was fast and immediately after take off it climbed vertically to perform the ‘Vertical Charlie’ followed by a wing over and a barrel roll and couple of loops. Its fully aerobatics capability was what impressed the children most. Another unique model was the ‘Delta Wing’ fully Aerobatics that performed some breathtaking loops, and also a ‘Vertical Charlie’. A remote-controlled glider brought back memories of the good old thrill of gliding that was a popular hobby flying sport with big size gliders like Rohini, Grono, Olympia being towed by a winch and launched into the sky. At Nagpur No. 2 Maharashtra Air Sqn NCC used to have regular gliding sessions at Sonegaon Air Field from 60s to 90s.

This aeroplane took off on power and after having reached good height, the engine was cut off, letting the aeroplane fly on the strength of its wings and the air currents. It displayed what was described as the technique of hovering. The glider also demonstrated loop. Other models that also flew was ‘Maliboo’. After the show, children rushed towards the parked models and sought information on questions they bombarded the Aero-modellors with. Even curious parents were seen engrossed with the Aero-modellors, seeking answers on the power of the engines, fuel used, its availability in the market. Selfie-taking sessions took over and children, defying the blazing Sun, got busy taking selfies along side the models. Other members of the Aero-modelling group who actively participated were Bhaurao Gondule, Tushar Lute, Swapnil Umredkar and Akash Bhodde.
