The Jail Road, which was carved by Nagpur Metro with a purpose to ease the traffic, has wore a deserted look these days. Thanks to the authorities for the wrong planning of the road that has created so much mess at Kriplani Square due to which many commuters are avoiding it. ‘The Hitavada’ has been consistently writing over the mess and that has compelled Metro authorities to come up with the solution. Now, Metro has prepared a design to end the mess.

Metro has dug some part of the Jail Road that ends at Kriplani Chowk but it has kept mum on the remedy that is being applied. Highly placed sources told ‘The Hitavada’ Metro has prepared one design and claimed that it received the approval from Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). NMC, did give them verbal approval, but DCP (Traffic) Gajanan Rajmane while giving them approval wrote a note. Sources disclosed that Rajmane was not very much satisfied by the design made by Metro engineers. He suggested some changes but on the insistence of Metro he gave his approval with a note that the responsibility of the people’s safety would lie on Metro.

Metro engineers assured Rajmane that if the change made would not work then the change suggested by him would be incorporated. How a project faces multiple problems one after another, if proper planning is not made, is evident from the mess up that has taken place at Kriplani Chowk. Meanwhile, Nagpur Metro did not get the result after installation of traffic signal. Finally, they closed the road going towards Deekshabhoomi. No option left with the commuters who wanted to go towards Gowari flyover or Deekshabhoomi than to take U-turn where lot of risk is involved. Move of installing traffic signals ended up aggravating the problem making traffic movement more chaotic. Unfortunately, the traffic load that was expected to be shared by the Jail Road, is being handled by Congress Nagar Road. Due to the heavy traffic Congress Nagar road has become accident prone.

‘The Hitavada’ asked Gajanan Rajmane, whether he was thinking of closing Congress Nagar road for heavy vehicles, he expressed his inability. According to him passengers coming from outside get down at Rahate Colony square so buses are to be allowed to pass through Congress Nagar road. “If the road is closed for heavy vehicles then it would become difficult for the passengers. I have taken round of the road to find the option but I could not,” explained Rajmane. With closure of road to Deekshabhoomi, commuters found a way between two pillars situated in front of Central Prison, to jump on the other side.
