Governor inaugurates national seminar on ‘Cornea-Cataract’ at AIIMS

Patients should not be deprived of treatment due to lack of funds, entire society is responsible to develop a healthy generation 
 
Governor Anandiben Patel said that eyes donation is a Mahadaan. Entire society is responsible to prepare masses for this noble cause. Government along with all the sections of the society and doctors should ensure its active participation in this great work. Moreover, doctors should pay a special attention to ensure that patients should not be deprived of treatment due to lack of funds. Pay special attention to the health of women and children to build healthy society. Patel was addressing the seminar organised under joint aegis of the State Blindness Control Society and AIIMS in connection to control disease related to cornea and cataract here on Sunday.
 
Need to pay special attention to children’s health The Governor asserted that special attention should be paid on children’s health. Doctors should organise workshops at districts and tehsils headquarters in primary schools for Aaganbadi workers and helpers in order to impart health related information to children. Take co-operation from medical students and private doctors too in this activity. She laid emphasis on need for efforts for generating people awareness to control causes of disease, so that disease could be prevented from small precautions. Furthermore, Patel mentioned that doctors should treat people like family members. Bed allotted to patients in hospitals must have a plate carrying patients’ name, disease, and detail of medicines essentially.
 
Provide good quality medical service in urban and rural areas The Governor said that reach of health services must be ensured to weakest person of the society and to the remote area. Uniformity must be ensured in providing medical services in urban and rural areas. Doctors should take co-operation from the affluent people of the society for medical treatment of poor. She stated that constant awareness should be generated among the people by providing them information about the reasons of diseases and measures for its prevention. Pay special attention to women’s health Patel said that the entire society will have to pay attention to ensure good health services to girls and women. She laid stress on special efforts for cleanliness and environment conservation.
 
Lauds efforts being made for education of labourers’ children The Governor praised the efforts being made at AIIMS for the welfare of children of labourers and school being run for them. She presented dry fruits, fruits and books to the children of ‘Apna School, being run in the campus of AIIMS. Patel inspected the intensive malnutrition unit of the institute and obtained information from the doctors and mothers of the children about the health of the children under treatment at the unit. New technology useful in controlling blindness: Padmashri Dr Titiyal Padmashri Dr Titiyal informed that new technology is very useful in eliminating problem of blindness regarding retina diseases. Under this technology, disease is being identified on the basis of the surface of retina.
 
He further informed that about 40 to 50 thousand surgeries are being conducted every year, whereas it is required more. Dr Titiyal further mentioned that need for expansion of transplantation services along with spreading awareness and availability of resources is must to end backlog. Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Dr Bhavna Sharma informed that doctors are being introduced with new technology by the specialists through live streaming of cornea transplant operation. She mentioned that there is no need for spectacles after transplanting lens by injection. This facility has been made available in AIIMS too. The Director AIIMS Dr Sarman Singh informed that all the 35 departments have started functioning in this institute established in the year 2012. The courses like MCS, D M and P hd along with MS and MD are being run in this institute.
