Loan shark’s younger brother Rohit Tomar apprehended

Making headway in loan sharking and extortion case, Raipur police succeeded in apprehending Rohit Tomar, the absconding younger brother of loan shark-turned-extortionist Ruby Tomar. “Based on precise inputs, a police team arrested the accused Rohit Tomar, who had been on the run ever since his elder brother Virendra Singh Tomar alias Ruby Singh. After camping in Delhi for few days, the team succeeded in arresting Rohit,” Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Prafull Kumar Thakur told ‘The Hitavada’. Notably, like Dattatray Phuge of Maharashtra, the accused Rohit Tomar proclaimed himself as ‘Gold Man’ of Chhattisgarh.
 
The ASP (City) further added that the accused Rohit Tomar has been brought to Raipur and being subjected to interrogation for collecting more details about the case. Investigation is underway to ascertain numbers of people being cheated by the duo of accused Tomar brothers. Moreover, police investigators are collecting details from various banks to find out number of properties and vehicles purchased by the duo by cheating innocent people. Police sources averred that the accused was arrested from Delhi and brought to Raipur by train on early Sunday morning at 4.30 am. Rohit has reportedly been kept at Kotwali Police Station after being brought to Raipur where senior officials will interrogate him further.
 
Several criminal offences against Rohit were reportedly pending with different police stations in the state capital.It may be recalled that Ruby Singh was arrested by Raipur police on charges of extorting a jeweller for past few years on the threat of releasing some video clippings involving him. By imposing exorbitant interest rate, accused Tomar has recovered over Rs 1 crore from the victim jeweller identified as Jai Kumar Badlani against Rs 5 lakh lend to the latter.
 
The accused was collecting Rs 5,000 per day and later the amount has been increased as Rs 10,000. The accused has forcefully collected signature of victim on stamp-papers and also get blank cheques signed by him. In this connection, two offences were registered with Kotwali police station and one with Kabir Nagar police station under Sections 294, 323, 327, 384, 506B, 34 and 120B of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounting to obscene acts and songs; punishment for voluntarily causing hurt; voluntarily causing hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act; punishment for extortion; punishment for criminal intimidation; acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and punishment of criminal conspiracy, and under relevant Section of Money Lending Act.
 
In another case, Purani Basti police booked Ruby Singh and his mother Sushila Singh Tomar for allegedly duping one Chandrabhan Singh Bhadoriya, identified as victim, of Rs 7 lakh on the lure of government job for his son. It may be recalled that during ongoing investigation, police have seized gold jewellery weighing around 1.600 kg, with estimated market value of around Rs 45 lakh from a car owned by Ruby Singh. Moreover, 1 kg silver, Rs 1 lakh cash, 41 blank cheques, sixteen bogus PAN cards, five passbooks, one laptop, documents of IT return and electricity bills were recovered from the car of accused.
