Youth meets watery grave at Jilharighat

In yet another instance of premature death on account of watery grave, one 18-year-old youth met with watery grave at Jilharighat falling under Gwarighat police station. The tragedy occurred on Sunday morning, when the youth, suspected to have been drowned in river Narmada, ventured at the river bank along with two his fellow associates to have bath in the holy river. All three youths, who had water sports in the river, went far from the river bank and were trapped in deep water. They screamed for help. The scream was responded to by a boatman, who rushed to the spot, managed to rescue two of the three, but one drowned in the river.
 
According to information, panic was reported at Jilharighat on Sunday morning, when three youths met with crisis, having ventured far away form the river bank to have bath in the holy river. It is informed that Sachin Gontia, Prashant Jain and Shubham Uikey, all residents of Lordganj area, decided to visit the river bank. As, around the river bank, water level was low, they decided to swim across to other side of the bank. Unaware of the deep water, they ventured far away and started indulging in water sports. Due to high current in the river, all three of them got swayed in water, causing panic. All of them started shouting for help, which made a boatman to reach the spot.
 
The boatman managed to rescue two, but Shubham went in deep river bed. The boatman named as Kallu Barman, having rescued two youths, informed that all three youths went far away from the bank and the location they were taking bath happened to be deep. Due to high current, all three lost control and faced serious crisis. On being informed, cops from Gwarighat police station reached the spot along with Home Guard team.
 
A massive search was initiated by the rescue team, but at the time of filling of this report, the youth remained beyond the reach of rescue team. Also, that after sunset, search operation was halted. About the suspected drowned youth, it is informed named as Shubham Uikey (18) appeared for class XII board examination is son of Mahesh Uikey, Constable posted at Kotwali police station, who had gone to Betul for election duty
