Accused Tomar Brothers flouted RBI guidelines

In another revelation to loan sharking cum extortion case, Raipur police on Monday claimed that the brother duo of loan shark-turned-extortionist Virendra Singh Tomar and Rohit Tomar have cheated some banks by availing loans to the tune of several lakhs with the help of forged documents. “By furnishing forged documents, Virendra Singh Tomar and Rohit Tomar have cheated banks and availed loan worth several banks for purchasing four-wheelers.
 
The role of banks’ employees in the forgery is also suspicious and investigation in this direction will soon start,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen on Monday. SSP Shaikh Arif Husen, said in preliminary investigation, it was learnt that three Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) ‘Innova’ purchased from the loan amount, which procured through forged documents, were sold in Nepal and a team will shortly be sent to the neighbouring country to gather inputs about the fact. Police investigators have already initiated efforts to ensure attachment of Tomar’s bungalow to the tune of around Rs 10 crore, other properties, vehicles and the seized gold ornaments. “After Ruby Singh joined Karni Sena, Rohit, who was recently arrested from Delhi, started handling the illegal business.
 
Flouting the guideline lending money fixed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the accused duo was imposing exorbitant interest rate of 10 percent per day from several innocent people,” said SSP Husen and called on people cheated by Tomar brother to approach police. On being asked about role of Ruby Singh’s wife and investment made by the accused in market, the officer replied police personnel are investigating the role of his wife. Initial investigation suggests that the accused might have investment of around Rs 50 crore in the market. It may be recalled that Ruby Singh was arrested by Raipur police on charges of extorting a jeweller for past few years on the threat of releasing some video clippings involving him. By imposing exorbitant interest rate, accused Tomar has recovered over Rs 1 crore from the victim jeweller identified as Jai Kumar Badlani against Rs 5 lakh lend to the latter.
 
The accused was collecting Rs 5,000 per day and later the amount has been increased as Rs 10,000. The accused has forcefully collected signature of victim on stamp-papers and also get blank cheques signed by him. In this connection, two offences were registered with Kotwali police station and one with Kabir Nagar police station under Sections 294, 323, 327, 384, 506B, 34 and 120B of IPC, which amounting to obscene acts and songs; punishment for voluntarily causing hurt; voluntarily causing hurt to extort property, or to constrain to an illegal act; punishment for extortion; punishment for criminal intimidation; acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention and punishment of criminal conspiracy, and under relevant Section of Money Lending Act.
