Aiming encouragement of income taxpayers in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh through education about compliances of Income Tax filing, two initiatives - the Income Tax Collection Scheme 2019 and Income Tax Payer Extension Scheme 2019 - have been taken for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Duo programmes would help in maximising the potential recovery of income tax in Jabalpur also, Principal Commission of Income Tax Jabalpur 1 and 2 focusing enhancement of new tax recovery and increase in numbers of taxpayers,” said A K Chouhan (IRS) Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) while addressing a press conference, on Tuesday.

For the collection under Income Tax Collection Scheme 2019, a 30 point programme has been chalked out for all 19 districts falling in purview of Jabalpur CIT. In this scheme, our main focus is to get connected with tax payers by establishing a trust and clearing prejudices related to I-T Department and its working. In this, various facilities would be extended like I-T Assistance Desk, centres at IT offices in all 19 districts and a Legal Aid that would have voluntary services of CAs and tax lawyers in Jabalpur who would give free legal advise to needy tax payers. Simultaneously, the department is focusing on vigilant Data Mining of internal and external data to identify habitual tax evaders.

On finding such taxpayers defaulting repeatedly, officers have been ordered to take strict action and launch prosecution against such tax evaders. Another initiative taken in MPCG is Income Jan Mitrata Abhiyaan (Income Tax Public Contact Campaign) as a mass movement to enhance relation with existing tax payers. In the financial year 2018-19, the IT recovery target for MPCG was Rs 25,455 crore and we have collected around Rs 2,33,347 crore, that is 91.6 per cent.

Similarly, in Target Area Demand collection, the performance was 98 per cent and we are amongst top five performers in the country.
