Thieves target 5 homes in a night

Sejbahar area was rocked by a string of thefts as thieves struck at five homes in a single night, making away with ornaments, cash and other valuables worth in several lakhs. Come summer and many families take off to enjoy the vacations or to attend marriage functions, leaving behind vacant homes. These homes then become easy target for the burglars.
 
At dead of the Monday night, thieves charged at several homes at Housing Board Colony Sejbahar along with the adjacent Gulshan Vatika Colony. According to the police, Sejbahar resident journalist Dhanvendra Jaiswal with his family had gone to Korba for three days. Burglars broke the latch of door to enter his home and steal the ornaments, cash and other valuables. Jaiswal told the Police that his family was still in Korba while he learned about the incident as he came back on Tuesday.
 
Estimated price of the stolen items is about Rs 2 lakh. Shubham Gupta also reported theft at his rented home. Thieves broke the lock to enter his home and ran away with cash, jewellery and other valuables. At the time of incident, landlord had gone to take on some examination while Gupta’s mother and wife had also went out on some work.
 
Flabbergasted by audacity of thieves, Mujgahan Police along with District Police launched a probe even as the other crime experts, fingerprint experts had close inspection of the crime scene. Citizens expressed resentment over the policing system with the sudden spike in thefts. Considering the gravity of the situation, Deputy Inspector General Police cum Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shaikh Arif Husen himself scoped out the crime scenes. He also held meeting with the Station House Officers of Police Stations, which covers the outer colonies over the security measures needed to curb the thefts.
