Women and Child Welfare Department stops child marriage in Sindhi Camp

Acting promptly on complaint of child marriage on Child Helpline Number, the team of Women and Child Welfare Department intervened and stopped a child marriage in Sindhi Camp, Radhakrishnan ward, on Tuesday. It may be mentioned that, on Akshay Tritiya, the tradition of child marriage is practiced in some communities of the city and in this direction, despite various efforts and initiatives, still, child marriages are being practiced in some parts of the city. Women and Child Welfare Department, Project Number 6, Project Officer, Shradha Chouksey, along with Police, reached the spot and investigated about the marriage being solemnised in Sindhi Camp area.
 
When the investigation team inquired about the age certificate of the bride and bridegroom in this child marriage, their relatives failed to produce any such documents and keeping this view in presence of Police, the marriage was kept on hold and only by presenting proper documents, the marriage could be performed. In this team, SHO Hanumantaal, C S Rajput along with Dinesh Gautam, Shweta Tiwari, Women and Child Welfare team while Project Officer, Shradha Chouksey, Sector Supervisor Kiran Patel already reached the spot of marriage.
 
District Project Officer, Manohar Lal Mehra said that, all sorts of preparations have been made in the district to ensure proper stop over child marriages in the district. In this important work, we also need public support. He added that, in order to create awareness amongst masses about the loss of child marriages in future life of children as well as about legal action, the Anganwadi workers have already been instructed to conduct door to door campaign. Women and Child Welfare Coordinator, Manish Sharma informed that, for effective implementation of the prohibition on child marriages, a control room has been established and operated in the district. Through this call centre, any person can give information on 0761 2623838 related to possibility of any child marriage in his knowledge.
 
He added that, on the complaint received on Tuesday morning, the team of Women & Child Welfare Department took a prompt action and stopped the child marriage, while recommending further for action after preparing Panchnama of the family members. In this, family members of both sides agreed to cancel the marriage.
