Engineering student arrested in rape case

Engineering student was arrested on charges of rape in Bhilai-3 following the complaint. The accused was jailed from the court on judicial remand on Wednesday. Police sources informed that the accused has been identified as Ashwani Sahu (25), a resident of Sahaspur-Lohara village of Kabirdham district. The police said that in her complaint the victim college student alleged that the accused Ashwani Sahu sexually exploited her on pretext of marriage for five years.
The accused Ashwani Sahu was renting a residential quarter in Charoda, Bhilai-3 to pursue the engineering study when he met the victim and they developed liking for each other. The victim was insisting Ashwani Sahu for marriage and in the meantime the victim girl also got to know about the marriage of the accused to be solemnised at his native village in Sahaspur-Lohara, Kabirdham district on Tuesday.
The girl lodged the complaint at the police station concerned and a police team took the accused into custody. The accused was to proceed on marriage procession when he was taken into police custody. While considering the jurisdiction, Kabirdham police transferred the case to Purani Bhilai police for further investigation and legal action in the matter. The police have registered the offence against the accused under section 376 of IPC and arrested the accused.
