Weather fluctuation taking toll on Bhilaians’ health

Unseasonal summer showers in Bhilai for the last couple of days have been making people vulnerable of falling ill. The sudden change in weather in the past few days with vast difference in day and night temperature has adversely affected the health of Bhilaians and the fluctuation in temperature is making the residents suffering with viral fever, jaundice, diarrhea, tanning, upper respiratory tract infection and other diseases.

Out Patients Department of Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital and Research Center and Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Hospital Supela are experiencing rush of such patients. The private hospitals and clinics are also experiencing such rush.
 
There is a rise in the number of viral fever, jaundice, diarrhea, tanning, dehydration among children, youths as well as in senior citizens. The sharp difference of 15 to 18 degree Celsius in the day to night temperature is persisting since few days and the Meteorological Department says that in the next couple of days, the maximum temperature may float between 43 - 45 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature may stay around 25 to 28 degree Celsius.
 
Doctors from Public Health Centre and Private Clinics stated that the number of patients with summer ailments has increased steadily especially from slum areas like Transport Nagar, Sanjay Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Khursipar, Shankarpara, Supela and others. City doctors pointed out that in the last few days there is a wide variation in the day and the night temperature, which is considered as most suitable for bacterial growth and transmission of viral infection and it is making people vulnerable to summer ailments.
 
General Practitioner, Dr Nirmala Anish advised to use sun glasses, scarf and umbrella while going out otherwise the body comes in direct contact with fluctuating temperatures which is dangerous. She added that the weather change can be problematic for kids. It may cause viral fever, allergy and respiratory problems to the children and needs proper care. “Proper care should be taken to keep children away from persons suffering from such infections as these elements are communicable by air and children are susceptible to it”, advised Dr Nirmala.
