The Bhilai Municipal Corporation has accelerated pre-monsoon cleaning drive while undertaking desilting of major nullah and drains in city. As per the directives issued by Bhilai Mayor, Devendra Yadav and BMC Commissioner, S K Sundrani, the BMC authority has engaged majority of BMC employees and sanitary workers for cleaning and desilting of drains.

For strengthening the drive, BMC authority is using chain-mounted excavators and sanitary workers have been engaged in desilting and cleaning at places, where mechanical cleaning is not possible. The corporation had earlier requested the social clubs and voluntary organisations to extend their help in cleaning the drains. But few of them extended their contrition in the same context.

The BMC official informed that the storm water drainage cleaning staff has been equipped with excavators, spades, baskets and other relevant equipment in order to remove the sludge from the bottom of the drains. BMC authority has been removing obstacles that will block the flow path of water, and are making sure that the drainage lines are clear of unwanted garbage, so that everything needed is in place to ensure that the rainwater flows into the drainage chambers.
