Narmadakka’s arrest a major success: SP

Dreaded Naxal leader Narmadakka and her husband Kirankumar, who were arrested by Gadchiroli Police on Tuesday, have been remanded to police custody by local court. The arrests are a major success for police as Narmadakka had managed to maintain quite a reign of terror in the region for almost 25 years now. She was involved in as many as 65 crimes including the Jambhulkheda landmine blast which had claimed 16 lives including 15 police personnel.
 
 
Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday afternon, Superintendent of Police Shailesh Balkawde informed that Narmadakka had been booked for the recent Jambhulkheda landmine blast in which 15 policemen and a driver had lost life besides a slew of other criminal activities executed by her over last 25 years. The responsibility of Jambhulkheda blast was owned by Western Regional Bureau of the Maoists and Narmadakka was the head of this Bureau, said Balkawde.
 
 
The SP said, “Gadchiroli Police have nabbed Narmadakka and Kirankumar from Sironcha bus stand on Tuesday. Police were constantly on a look out for her since last several months and just as she crossed the borders of Telangana and reached Sironcha she was nabbed along with her husband by our men.”
