Wildlife wing of Madhya Pradesh Forest Department has given green signal for setting up of a zoo on Raisen road under Van Vihar Phase-2. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the proposed zoo has been sent to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for final nod.

If all goes well, visitors will have a new tourism spot very close to Bhopal city by end of year 2020. The proposed zoo will be developed over 150 acre of land. Spot identified for the construction work is just 25 km away on Bhopal-Raisen Road in Chidiatol area. The zoo will also have tiger safari as special attraction for the visitors. In this zoo, local and migratory species of birds will be displayed for the entertainment of visitors. Talking to ‘The Hitavada’ Alok Kumar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (APCCF), wildlife wing said, “The zoo will be developed over 150 hectare of land. DPR has been sent to the CZA and we have targeted to complete the project by year 2020.”

He further added that CZA will be forwarding the proposal to six member team for final clearance. The team would be visiting spots and enquiring entire project before giving Green signal. The zoo will be developed under Van Vihar Phase-2 for which head office and eco-tourism spot has been identified. The land identified for the project is basically a small jungle covered with Green bushes and appropriate for the habitat of wildlife. The project has been drafted by ex-forest officer C K Dubey. Discussing about the project, he said that this zoo will be quite different from the Van Vihar National Park and other zoos of the State. He said that there will be also tiger safari and entertaining activities for the visitors along with several selfie zones. As per guidelines of CZA, in this zoo different species of wildlife will be brought from other countries too.

Apart from tourism activities, wildlife safety has been prioritised in the project report. Biggest housing of the tiger safari will be prepared for the big cats where three to four tigers would be kept together with partition. Separate cages will be prepared for leopard, antelope, black bug, wild boar, bear and other animals. There will be also White Peacock, Hippopotamus and other species as center of attraction. Sufficient water and space will be provided to the animals for their survival.
