Two elephants return from Gadchiroli to Chhattisgarh

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Conservation Foundation has extended immediate help of Rs 50,000 for treatment of forest guard

Two elephants creating sensation in Kochinara, Satputi jungle in Korchi tehsil of Gadchiroli district two days ago have returned to the boundary of Rajnandgaon in Chhattisgarh on Thursday.
 
 
 
The elephants had migrated from Odisha to Gadchiroli via Chhattisgarh. One of the elephants tossed one forest guard Dnyaneshwar Chilamwar, Forest Guard, and grievously injured him with his leg fractured. The villagers from nearby places crowded the area out of curiosity to see the jumbos for the first time. The tusker went berserk due to scorcing heat and crowd of the people and attacked the forest guard on Tuesday.
 
While talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Nitin Kakodkar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Nagpur, who was in touch with the Chief Conservator of Forest, Chhattisgarh, said that the elephants reached back to Chhattisgarh boundary. The Deputy Conservators of Forest from Gondia and Wadsa were montiroing the movements of the elephants along with their staff members till the Gondia-Wadsa-Rajnandgaon boundary, he added.
 
Meanwhile, Niranjan Vivarekar, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Wadsa, said that the situation was under control in Wadsa Forest Division as the elephants went towards Rajnandgaon boundary. One team has been still deployed in jungle for monitoring and creating awareness among the villagers.
 
Vivarekar said, Doctors performed operation of Dnyaneshwar in a private hospital in Brahmapuri. He will be required to undergo another operation next week. Umesh Kumar Agrawal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Head of Forest Force), and Kakodkar visited the hospital and enquired about health of the forest guard.
 
In the meantime, Vivarekar and his staff collected Rs 11,000 as giving financial help to Dnyaneshwar. Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Conservation Foundation has allotted Rs 50,000 towards immediate expenditure for treatment. Vivarekar has appealed to the staff from the division to help generously in this regard. Local staff members are also making arrangements, if required.
