Justice is no injustice to anyone: Justice Gavai

District Bar Association felicitates Justice Bhushan Gavai on his elevation as Supreme Court judge 
 
“While deciding cases, judges also face challenges. But, they have to side by what is just. Justice is justice. It does not mean injustice to anyone,” said Justice Bhushan Gavai. He was responding to his felicitation by District Bar Association (DBA), in a function organised at District Court premises here on Saturday. DBA felicitated Justice Gavai on his elevation to the Supreme Court. Justice Ravi Deshpande, Senior Administrative Judge, Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court; Justice Vinay Joshi, Vibha Ingle, District and Sessions Judge; Adv Kamal Satuja, President of DBA; Adv Nitin Deshmukh, General Secretary; Adv Satish Deshmukh, Adv Shrirang Bhandarkar also shared the dais on the occasion. At the outset, Justice Gavai was felicitated with shawl, shreefal, and a citation.
 
Addressing the gathering, Justice Bhushan Gavai said that it was his tenth felicitation since his elevation to the Supreme Court. He shared his experience as judge of the High Court. He recalled that when he had been appointed to Goa High Court for two months, the staffers there met him with a grievance. Central Government was willing to apply payscale to these staffers but the file was pending with the administration. He directed the administration to take decision within 15 days.
 
“When you are working on judicial side, some decisions go in favour of the administration and some in favour of others. However, justice is justice. It is not meant to heap injustice on anyone,” Justice Gavai said. Stating that judges and lawyers were students till their last breath, Justice Gavai said that they learned from experience. Justice Ravi Deshpande said that the whole family of Justice Bhushan Gavai is known for following the ideals of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar.
 
“We all are proud and happy that we have got a Supreme Court judge who is known for delivering justice,” he said. Justice Vinay Joshi and Vibha Ingle also expressed their thoughts on the occasion. Khurana, Sessions Judge; Mangala Thakre, Family Court Judge; Justice Manisha Kale, Adv Rajendra Patil, Adv Mahesh Gupta, Adv S K Mishra, Adv Shailesh Narnaware, Adv Anil Kumar, Adv Namdeo Gawhale, Adv Anil Gowardipe, Adv Deepak Kolhe, and the office-bearers of Taluka Bar Associations from Nagpur district, and the Bar Associations from Vidarbha region also felicitated Justice Gavai. Adv Shabhana Khan conducted the proceedings of the programme and Adv Kirti Kadu proposed a vote of thanks. Justice Sunil Shukre, Justice Pradeep Deshmukh, Justice Vinay Deshpande, Justice Nitin Sambre, Justice Rohit Deo, Justice Pushpa Ganediwala, V B Kulkarni, Sessions Judge, and other dignitaries from the legal fraternity were present prominently.
