Craze for ‘Facebook live video’ cuts short two young lives

A Facebook Live video of a group of youngsters turned into a tragic film when an SUV they were travelling in somersaulted thrice before hitting a roadside tree on Nagpur-Katol Road on Sunday evening. Two brothers were killed on the spot and five injured seriously in the horrific accident. The deceased have been identified as Punkesh Chandu Patil (27) and Sanket Chandu Patil (25), both residents of Vishwakarma Nagar.

Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Narendra Piwal of Katol Police Station informed that a total of nine youths were going to Madhuban Resort in the SUV (MH-31/EK-2530) to attend a pool party. One of the occupant of the car was filming a Facebook Live Video and it was streaming on the Facebook account of Punkesh Patil. The 37 second long video was shot when the vehicle was crossing Pusala village. The accident occurred when driver of the SUV attempted to overtake another car heading towards Katol. Soon after crossing the car, the SUV driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the road. The SUV somersaulted thrice and came to halt after ramming the roadside tree.
 
Punkesh and Sanket sustained grievous head injuries in the mishap and breathed their last on the spot while other occupants received grievous injuries in the mishap. The injured persons were rushed to the hospital by the passers-by and their condition is reportedly normal. PSI Piwal said that the SUV was badly mangled in the accident.
 
The injured persons have been identified as Ankit Domaji Raut (25), a resident of Medical Chowk, Pranav Shil (21), Ambuja Shahu (21), Malay Biswas (21), Ajinkya Gudamwar (23), Rakesh Dongarwar (24), all residents of Nagpur. Katol Police have registered the case under verious Sections of Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
