Bhilai Steel Plant has handed over the services of Bhilai Niwas to Indian Coffee House. The outsourcing of services to ICH was a long drawn conclusion after the normal operation of Bhilai Niwas was severely affected since a long owing to staff crunch. Bhilai Niwas, formerly known as Bhilai Hotel, has been handed over to Indian Coffee House for maintaining services, catering and other operations. After seeking approval of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), BSP office, Bhilai Niwas was handed over to Indian Coffee House following an agreement. The sources said that the process was undertaken about six months ago but BSP management has to finalise whether the services to be outsourced through leasing it out or floating tender. It was finally handed over to ICH on contract basis.

It took long for the department to finalise the modalities of agreement. Along with catering and housekeeping now Indian Coffee House would maintain all other services at Bhilai Niwas house keeping the well furnished 32 apartments and 122 rooms and the sprawling 35 acres of land. Presently, about 35 BSP employees have been deployed at Bhilai Niwas but with outsourcing services they would be transferred and posted in other departments of BSP.

After the last contract was over the restaurant at Bhilai Niwas was not functioning since March 2016. There was severe staff crunch and most of BSP workers, serving at Bhilai Niwas were also medically unfit. It was also looked upon as cost cutting measure by BSP management.
