Pre-monsoon showers give much needed respite; mercury dips

People of Nagpur got the much-needed respite from scorching heat as the city received pre-monsoon showers with gusty winds on Saturday evening, bringing down the mercury by almost 3 degrees. The maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 43.8 degree Celsius which was three degrees lesser than the temperature on Friday. However, the minimum temperature recorded was 32.8 degree Celsius which was 4.1 degree Celsius above normal. The rainfall with winds lasted for more than one hour. Branches of the trees got ripped off at many places creating traffic jam.

According to Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), this unexpected rainfall was caused by the western disturbances and will have effect on city’s weather for next few days. The temperature during afternoon will remain around 45 degree Celsius for a few more days with humidity and thunderstorms occuring in the evening. “The sky will remain partly cloudy for the next 24 hours.
 
There are chances of very light rains and thunderstorm in the city for next couple of days,” stated the Weather Department. In most cities of Vidarbha, the weather turned cloudy towards the evening on Saturday. Though it did provide some relief from scorching sun, it also increased the humidity. On Saturday, Wardha recorded the highest maximum temperature with 45.5 degree Celsius while Amravati was 44.8 degree Celsius and Akola was 44.2 degrees.
 
Other places like Buldhana (42.2), Bramhapuri (41.9), Chandrapur (42.6), Gadchiroli (42.2), Gondia (40.4), Washim (43.0) and Yavatmal (42.5) also experienced dip in temperature. However, the highest minimum temperature in Vidarbha was recorded in Wardha with 33.4 degree Celsius while Chandrapur was also above 33 degree mark. Akola (30.5), Washim (31.0) and Yavatmal (31.4) also recorded minimum temperature above 30 degree mark on Saturday.
