Deceased’s family accused police of beating victim mercilessly
 
IG suspends five cops, including SHO; judicial probe underway
 
 
In a shocking incident, son of a cop died in custody of Bairagarh police during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. Deceased was identified as Shivam Mishra. Police said that Mishra and his friend were taken to police station after Shivam’s car collided with BRTS corridor. Deceased’s family members have accused police of beating victim to death. Acting swiftly, Inspector General of Police Yogesh Deshmukh suspended five cops, including SHO of Bairagarh, and now judicial probe is underway. Home Minister Bala Bachan has expressed concern over the incident. The deceased’s father works in radio section of Police Department.
 
Deceased’s father held police responsible for the death of his son. In the meantime, reports also poured in media that Shivam’s gold chain was missing and cops have allegedly taken the gold chain. This incident kicked off enough dust, leaving police in tight corners and under severe criticism. To clear the haze over the incident, IG Yogesh Deshmukh addressed the mediapersons in the evening.
 
Deshmukh said that he had suspended five cops, including SHO Ajay, SI Rajesh, constable Rajkumar etc, in the wake of death of Shivam Mishra. Deshmukh added that a girl was also with Shivam Mishra and Govind and she left the scene with someone else on a two-wheeler. Police are looking into girl’s aspect of the case. Moreover, liquor bottles were also found in the car and even in first medical test, Shivam was found to be under the influence of liquor.
 
Deshmukh added that after Shivam’s car collided, the railing of BRTS corridor also fell on passing car owned by one Lokesh Aswani. In this connection, Aswani had lodged a complaint and he stated that a girl was also with the both youths. Other eye-witnesses have also confirmed the presence of girl who left scene bare footed after the accident. Deshmukh said that earlier, Shivam was taken to civil hospital for first MLC. After returning, he was not feeling well. After sometime, Shivam fell downs on ground and fainted. He was immediately rushed to civil hospital again where doctors declared him brought dead. The medical report says that he died of cardiac arrest. As family of Shivam have levelled allegations on cops, hence, all angles would be considered in the probe. A judicial inquiry has commenced into the case. Shivam was riding the car. “If there is fault on the part of police then action would be taken,” he stated. When asked that Shivam’s friend Govind has alleged that they were beaten by inebriated cops, he told that this angle was not known to him and would be looked into.
