People-leaders join hands for Upper Lake

Remove encroachment from Upper Lake strictly and do not be influenced by anyone’s call. In order to realise ‘Hara Bhopal-Sheetal Bhopal’, dream, cleaning of water sources should be done and saplings should be planted in large number. This was the feeling among speakers on the occasion of inauguration of deepening work of Upper Lake in Hirdaram Nagar. Minister for Public Relations, Science and Technology P C Sharma, Minister for Urban Development and Housing Jaivardhan Singh and Mayor Alok Sharma inaugurated the deepening work and participated in ‘Shramdaan’. Minister Sharma said that soil excavated from the pond should be used for planting saplings. He further stated if one tree is being felled then 3 saplings should be planted. Sharma further said that Bhopal is identified by lakes. There is a need for everyone’s co-operation to remove encroachment from the lake. Deepening work must start from December-January itself:
 
Minister for Urban Development and Housing Jaivardhan Singh stated that deepening work of the lake must be started from the next December-January month by preparing an action plan. Remove all the encroachment strictly from the catchment area of lake. In order to stop sewage water from mixing with lake’s water, get the sewage water treated under the Amrut Yojana. Upper lake is the heart of Bhopal and we all are responsible for its protection, he added. Mayor Alok Sharma said that delay is caused but maximum work will be done within the time available. Every possible effort will be made to realise ‘Hara Bhopal-Sheetal Bhopal’ dream.
 
He expected everyone’s assistance in removing encroachment. MLA Rameshwar Sharma mentioned that saplings should also be planted in nearby villages along with Bhopal. Commissioner Bhopal Division Kalpana Shrivastava said that Upper Lake is a lifeline of Bhopal. Its restoration is must. She informed that lake’s soil will be used in planting saplings. 24,000 crore litre water storage capacity will be increased: Deepening work done at Bhadbhada will increase about 14,580 crore litre water storage capacity and similarly deepening work being done near Sant Hirdaram Nagar will increase about 10,000 crore litre water storage capacity.
 
Brochure of ‘Hara Bhopal-Sheetal Bhopal” was released by the guests. They also administered an oath of water conservation, plantation and cleanliness to the people present on the occasion. President of Bhopal Municipal Corporation Surjeet Singh Chouhan proposed a vote of thanks. Public representatives, Chief Conservator of Forest R K Tiwari, District Collector Tarun Pithore, Municipal Commissioner Vijaydutta and eminent citizens were also present on the occasion.
