Public Health Engineering Minister Sukhdev Panse told that Madhya Pradesh will be the first state to give legal frame to Right to Water Act. On an average, per day every person would get 55 liters of water. To realise Right to Water Act, State Government is going to organise discussion on June 24 in which well-known water experts, including ‘Waterman’ Rajendra Singh, will discuss the subject related issues. Elected public representatives, common people etc would also take part in the discussion. At present, 5.88 crore people reside in 1,28,231 settlements of villages.

Out of them, it is only 40 per cent population which is getting water through Nal Jal scheme. Of this, only 12 per cent rural houses get direct water supply. He added that State is having around 2,400 ponds and lakes and their life depends on their catchment area. Therefore, it is necessary to protect their catchment areas.

“Under Right to Water Act, Catchment Protection Act will also be included,” he told. He added that all Government departments have been asked to give priority to water. Claiming that no significant work had been done in previous Government, he informed that suggestions coming from Jal Sansad will be incorporated into the Right to Water Act. He alleged that during BJP tenure, no work was done in the direction of water recharging. On this occasion, Congress Media Cell’s Chairperson Shobha Ojha, media co-ordinator to CM Narendra Saluja, Bhupendra Gupta, Durgesh Sharma etc were also present.
