A patient got new lease of life at Dr B R Ambedkar Memorial Hospital (BRAMH) after he underwent a first of its type operation in this Government hospital. The patient was suffering from Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). Dr Krishana Kant Sahu, Head of Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery, informed that the patient, named Linkan Cristian (54), a resident of Bhilai Sector-I, was suffering from severe flank pain for past four months. He consulted doctors and took medicines for kidney stone. He also took ayurvedic treatment but could not get relief.

Later, he experienced abdominal pain and the doctor performed CT scan. Through CT scan doctors reported balloon like structure on main vein in abdominal area. The balloon like swelling was visible on his abdominal reason and was increasing day by day. Doctors diagnosed AAA. As the treatment of the disease was not available in Chhattisgarh, he was referred to Christian Medical College Vellore or Apollo Chennai. There the doctors advised him to take move immediately as delay in the process could be dangerous and the balloon like structure could burst any time if the blood pressure increases.

Dr Sahu further informed that the patient was very carefully treated and surgery was performed by a team of doctors. The surgery took about five hours time and artificial Y-shaped dacron graft was implanted. The patient is now leading a normal and healthy life and will be discharged on Tuesday. Team was comprised of Dr K K Sahu, Dr Nishant Chandel, Dr Arti (PG), Anesthetist Dr O P Sundrani, Dr Rajesh, Nursing Staff Rajendra and Munesh Kumar.
