6 killed, 43 hurt as bus plunges into gorge

SIX people were killed and forty-three injured after a bus skidded off the road and fell into a gorge in Anuraj Valley in Jharkhand’s Gadwa district during early hours on Tuesday. The accident occurred at about 3.30 am and the officials informed that dead bodies of six passengers have been fished out of the gorge while there is a possibility that some are still reportedly stuck inside the bus. The CRPF Jawans recovered the bodies by entering the ill-fated bus through the window. They even evacuated some of the passengers who were stuck inside and were in a deep state of shock.According to Shivani Tiwari, Superintendent of Police, Gadwa district forty-three people have been rescued. Some of the critically injured have been admitted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences in Ranchi while other injured have been referred to other local hospitals in Ranchi, she added.
 
The sleeper bus en route Garhwa district of Jharkhand, 140 km from Ranchi. Rescue operation by Jharkhand police is still underway. Ambikapur Additional Superintendent of Police Om Chandel said that among those killed in the accident three, including Lovely Gupta and her husband Pramod Gupta and Laxman Jaiswal, were from Ambikapur. The exact reason for the accident is still unclear, he said. More than 55 passengers were travelling and since it was so early in the morning the driver may have dozed and lost control.
 
According to ASP, Balrampur S P has sent a team of police personnel to look into the matter and Ramanujganj SDO (P) Nitesh is coordinating so that the victims get immediate medical attention and relief. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed grief over the death. The CM said that the accident was extremely unfortunate. He wished speedy recovery of the injured passengers. Chief Minister has directed Collector Balrampur to send a team of officials to Gadwa and accordingly SDO Revenue, SDO Police and Tehsildar have already send to provide necessary medical and financial support to the injured passengers. This team will ensure that the injured passengers are being taken care of at the Hospital Gadwa.
