Assets worth crores unearthed in raid on retd SDO

The EOW team has unearthed cash, gold and diamond jewellery, shares, property documents, luxury cars as well as furnished house with luxurious accessories amounting to hundreds of crores 
 
Property, cash, jewellery, documents of investment in properties, companies worth crores were unearthed in a raid conducted by Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the office and house of the retired Sub-Divisional Officer of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department, situated in 42, Anantara in Bilhari, Office in Sadar and Bilhari.
 
A huge team of around 70 officials and staffers of the EOW initiated raid on Tuesday morning hours under the direction of EOW Superintendent of Police, Devendra Singh Rajput. The team has unearthed cash, gold and diamond jewellery, shares, property documents, luxury cars as well as furnished house with luxurious accessories amounting to hundreds of crores. It may be mentioned that, the Economic Offences Research Wing has been working since last many days on a complaint of disproportionate income against a retired SDO of PHE Department, Suresh Upadhyay, resident of Anantara Residency, Bilhari.
 
Gathering adequate information regarding the property, business and disproportionate income collected by the retired SDO, Upadhyay and his family members, including wife BJP leader, Anuradha Upadhyay and son Sachin Upadhyay, the EWO initiated action on Tuesday morning after gathering sufficient evidences of economic offence by the Upadhyay family. EOW SP, Devendra Singh, talking to this newspaper, informed that, the documents related to banking, investment in different real estate companies, properties, insurance policies and property related documents have been seized. In this raid, documents of various bank accounts of members of Upadhyay family found in the raid are being analysed as well as detailed information regarding transactions in these bank accounts are also being gathered by EOW. Singh added that, in this raid, documents related to various companies and involvement of Upadhyay family is being assessed. At primary level, we are assessing the cost of investment as per present market prize. On Wednesday, the bank lockers would be opened.
 
According to the sources, EOW swung into action after a complaint filed against Suresh Upadhyay before EOW of disproportionate income during the service tenure as the SDO, PHE Department as well as in the complaint, business and works of other family members were also mentioned. In this raid, till now, over 27 properties related documents have been seized by the EOW sleuths and further investigation is being carried out to assess the actual worth of property stashed by the retired SDO, Suresh Upadhyay and his family.
