3 employees sustain severe burn injuries in mishap at BSP

THREE, including a Junior Officer, sustained severe burns when suddenly a huge electrical flash occurred at Main Substation Distribution System-II (MSDS-II) in Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) on Wednesday morning. The victims were immediately taken to JLN Hospital, Bhilai and their condition was stated to be stable. According to information, at about 11:20 am on Wednesday, necessary work was being undertaken at 15(A) Substation of MSDS-II in BSP when a huge spark from a power panel erupted causing severe burns to Junior Officer Pratap Singh Dhruv (45), Senior Technician Manoj Kumar Patel (53), and Operative cum Technician(OCT)Devendra Kumar Sahu (30). In the mishap, the victims received 30 to 45 per cent burns. The victims were working at power panel at the substation when a huge spark occurred, causing burns on their faces and chest. However, after the electrical flash luckily no fire mishap occurred owing to the tripping of power supply.
 
In the aftermath of mishap, Hindustan Steel Employees Union (CITU) office bearers including S P Dey, Savita Kumari, Kunj Bihari Mishra, Ali Akbar inspected the sight of mishap and the first hand details were recorded. Public Relation Department, BSP officials informed that on Wednesday morning in Sub-Station 15-A Electrical Supply Feeder was being prepared for the new hydraulic mudgun of Blast Furnace-7. While putting the feeder into service position, a flashover occurred resulting in three including Junior Officer getting burn injuries. Pratap Singh Dhruv with 45 per cent burns; Devendra Kumar Sahu with 30 per cent burns and Manoj Kumar Patel with 30 percent burn injuries, have been admitted in the burn unit of JLN Hospital and Research Center, Bhilai.
