Mohan Markam takes charge as CPCC Chief

Kondagaon MLA and senior tribal leader Mohan Markam assumed charge of office as new President of Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CPCC) at state Congress party office Rajiv Bhawan on Saturday. Markam was appointed as the CPCC President in place of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who was the President of CPCC for over five years. Mohan Markam, who comes from Bastar region, took the charge of office of the CPCC President from outgoing CPCC President Bhupesh Baghel at Rajiv Bhawan. Addressing a programme at Rajiv Bhawan, Mohan Markam said, “It is a historical moment for me.
 
I have started working with the party organisation as a booth level worker and today I have occupied the top post of the state unit of AICC. I come from a simple family with no political lineage and the 134 years old Congress party made me the CPCC President,” said Markam. Markam expressed gratitude towards Congress National President Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Health Minister T S Singhdeo for the new responsibility he has been given. The new CPCC President said that he would work to fulfil the wishes of the party workers while strengthening and expanding the party further.
 
Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge P L Punia, Speaker of Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly and former CPCC President Dr Charan Das Mahant, former CPCC Working Presidents Satyanarayan Sharma and Dhanendra Sahu hoped the party would become stronger under the leadership of new President Mohan Markam. All India Congress Committee (AICC) Secretaries for Chhattisgarh Dr Chandan Yadav, Dr Arun Oraon, Cabinet Ministers Mohammad Akbar, Dr Shiv Kumar Dahariya, Guru Rudra Kumar, Anila Bhedia, Jaisingh Agrawal, Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, MLAs, district Presidents, block Presidents and other party leaders were present.
