Two youngsters were killed when their motorcycles collided head-on near Medhepathar village in Katol Police Station area. “The youths were riding the bike without protective headgears,” said police. The deceased have been identified as Akshay Ramrao Kadu (24), a resident of Dhawlapur, Katol and Jagidsh Shankar Kumbhre, a resident of Ajangaon.

According to police, the accident occurred Saturday on Katol-Nagpur road at 7.15 pm. A police officer informed that Akshay was heading towards Nagpur on a bike (MH-40/B-2001) while Jagdish was moving to Katol on another motorcycle (MH-40/BQ-3829) with Sagar Haribhau Tumdam (23), a resident of Dhadi village in Ashti, Wardha. As both motorcycles were moving in a great speed, the bike riders lost control over the wheels and collided head-on near Methepathar village. The youths fell on the road and sustained grievous head injuries.

A large number of onlookers gathered at the spot and rushed the profusely bleeding youths to the hospital where Akshay and Jagdish breathed their last. Condition of Sagar Tumdam is reportedly critical. A police officer informed that the youths were on way to their villages when they met with accident. The cops are suspecting that the youths were riding the bike under the influence of liquor. “We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and cause of death would be established after receiving the post-mortem report,” said PI Satish Rajput. Both motorcycles were badly mangled in the mishap.

Another police officer claimed that number of accidents on Nagpur-Katol road was increasing over the years due to heavy traffic. Katol police have registered the case under Sections 279, 337, 304 (a) of Indian Penal Code read with Section 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. PSI Nrendra Piwal is investigating the case.
