Government of India vows to make rural area disease-free

In an effort to boost Ayurved practice, Government of India has decided to deploy Ayurved doctors in rural area who would guide people to take home-based medicines. The idea of Government behind it is to make rural population disease-free. Initially this activity would be conducted for rural population and later on it will performed in urban areas too. Informing about this activity, Dr Ganesh Mukkawar, Dean of Government Ayurvedic College told ‘The Hitavada’, “This is a part of promoting Ayurved which did not have political patronage till now.

One more positive thing involved in it is, the panicky created by modern medicine in society about the diseases would go gradually. We have remedies at our homes. Unfortunately, we are not applying the same probably either because we are not aware or we got so much influenced by the modern medicine that we lost faith in our own system.” Elaborating about the activity, Dr Mukkawar said, “In every district behind a population of 3,000 to 5,000 one Ayurved doctor would be deployed who would visit the homes and guide them about the medicines. People suffer from several diseases, majority of which can be cured by the home-based items having fantastic medicinal values.

Our earlier generation was aware of its uses. With the passage of time and bombarding by modern medicine, the knowledge about the traditional medicines has gone at the backyards. These Ayurved doctors would endeavour to revive it. These medicines too require a proper guidance. Since Ayurved is the oldest therapy in the world, the doctors who have studied it would help people to use it.” “Our Ayurved doctors tell people that for every single reason they need not go to hospital. They not only guide and provide the medicines but they would also suggest them about the trees with tremendous medicinal values to be planted in the premises of the houses.

Plants like Tulsi, Shatawari, Amla, etc., can be planted and benefits of them can be availed. Activity will be conducted in a proper and systematic manner. A group of doctors would be formed under the Principal of Dean of Ayurved college of that area. Principal or Dean would guide them about how to approach people and explain to them everything in detail. Of course people need to follow the treatment discipline because while being treated through traditional medicines, one has to stay away from certain things. People are expected to follow those and not fall prey to any advises given by outsiders,” cautioned Dr Mukkawar

MUHS to take help of Vaidus Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik too has taken the initiative on the lines of what AYUSH did.

It has approached Vaidus who have been treating patients in rural areas through traditional medicines. Dr Dileep Mhaisekar, Vice-Chancellor of MUHS has himself visited one village in Nashik and had experience. Some of them are termed as quacks. But MUHS will be doing it in a proper manner under the supervision of Ayurved doctors. “I have discussed this issue with Dr Deodutt Deshmukh, an Ayurvedic Doctor in Nashik. Team of Ayurved doctors would certify the traditional medicines administered by the Vaidus and then it would be applied on the patients.

We have chalked out the programme that would end on April 6, 2020, which will be a first phase. Depending on its results we would take it further. Initially it would be limited to tribal areas of Nashik division. Gradually we would spread it in whole Maharashtra,” informed Dr Mhaisekar. Dr Mhaisekar himself had come down to Nagpur to meet Dr Suresh Pashine, a very busy doctor rendering traditional treatment to people who come with several complaints of cancer, renal failure. There are hundreds of example where patients got relief out of treatment given by Dr Pashine, admitted Dr Mhaisekar.
