Absconding businessman in fraud case nabbed

In connection with alleged tax evasion, Civil Lines police on Saturday arrested an absconding businessman in State capital. Civil Lines police arrested proprietor of M/s Durga Trading Company Shankar Chouhan (32), a native of Bihar and currently residing here in Shri Nagar under Khamtarai police station, for allegedly evading Goods and Service Tax (GST) and causing loss of over Rs 9.91 lakh to government revenue, said police.
 
Police further informed that the arrested businessman was absconding from past five years. The accused businessman reportedly evaded the tax by issuing bogus bills. According to police sources, proprietor of M/s Durga Trading Company Shankar Chouhan has allegedly evaded GST through forged bills. The tax evasion has cause revenue loss of over Rs 9.91 lakh to government. Following the complaint of a commercial tax officer, Civil Lines police registered an offence under Section 420 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), which amounting to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, and arrested Chouhan in Raipur.
