Due to heavy shortage of nurses and over load of work patients treatment are getting affected in Hamidia Hospital. A K Shrivastava, Superintendent of Hamidia Hospital, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’ said that nurses are over burdened but that cannot be taken as a reason for not performing during duty hours and accordingly notices have been issued to a few nurses. Nurses Association of Madhya Pradesh’s President Dhanraj Nagar said that nurses in Hamidia Hospital are over burdened with additional work. In a ward of 20-25 patients only one staff nurse is deployed and Hamidia Hospital management is not taking concrete measures to fill the gap.

Hospital staff have claimed that high patient rush are the cause of poor care levels, preventable medical errors, readmissions, medicine stock errors etc. Of late, CCL has also been cancelled of all hospital staff nurse but they have not shown any displeasure or protested with the management but recent held management committee of hospital is trying to hide their short comings of inadequate infrastructure facility on services of nurses which is not justified, he alleged. During summers number of patients with heat stroke are at increase in the hospital and in such cases more attention is required from hospital nurse to look into the patient individually.

With additional work load this is practically next to impossible, he alleged. According to rule of India Nursing council, in the general ward there should be only one staff nurses on 5 patients and one staff nurses on 1 patient in ICU. But in Hamidia for 15- 20 bed ICU only 3-4 nurses are available and in the wards with 30- 40 beds two to three nurses are deployed which is not sufficient. Time duration for nurses have been extended to 12 hours sometimes during emergency which is also violation of human rights.

Additional to that they also alleged that whenever there is any ruffle between attendees of patients many times nurses are blamed for their services without even looking at the ground reality which is unfortunate. Of late, Hamidia Hospital management has issued notices to some nurses for their lenient attitude. It was reported that nurses in hospital are not doing work properly and during night hours they are found sleeping even during emergency situations. Some patients have complained that even medicines are not being provided on time to the patients and also not maintaining proper stock of medicines in the ward. It was alleged by doctors that many times unavailability of medicine is reported in ward.
