Parenting nowadays comes with a wide array of challenges and difficulties. The toughest one undoubtedly being the safety of the little ones when they’re out of sight of their parents. The countless gory and heartbreaking incidents involving children, happening with alarming frequency, do little to soothe the anxiety of parents and their security concerns. Out to address this mammoth challenge are city’s very own bright young minds, Harish Adatiya and Nikhil Sawansukha.

The engineers-turned-entrepreneurs have come up with a unique child safety device that will not only trace the whereabouts of children but also ensure the much-needed peace of minds of parents, who are forever fretting about their kids and their safety. Called the PugMarg, the ID card-sized device promises a one-stop solution for many of the concerns of parents regarding the safety of their children. Patented by Harish and Nikhil, PugMarg is a real time child tracking smart safety device which can be carried by a child as an Identity Card. The small device uses the Global Positioning System to determine and track the precise location. It displays real time location on the map of the authenticated user through the PugMarg Mobile Parent App. It comes with an integrated SMS service, which automatically sends text alerts to the user in case their child moves out of a safe zone.

It also has an emergency signal feature which enables the child to signal the parent in case of any emergency situation. Upon pressing the SOS button, the device will send out the exact location and will also trigger a call to the account holder. The device will call the parents and they can hear and gauge the situation their child is in and take appropriate action. Explaining the idea behind PugMarg, Harish says, “We were shocked after the unfortunate Yug Chandak and Kush Kataria cases came to light.

These cases got us thinking about the problems which prevent parents from communicating with their children and to how we can enhance safety of children when they are not with their parents. See, when a child leaves home for school, or extra-curricular classes, parents by force assume that the child must have reached the said destination, but have no ways of being sure about it as there is no way they can communicate with their ward. Since mobiles phones and wearable devices are not allowed - rightly of course - in school, parents have no way of being sure about it. There is always a question mark behind their concerns and never a full stop.

That’s where PugMarg comes handy. The device will help parents be with their kids 24x7, even when it’s not physically possible for them. They will be at peace knowing their child has a device with which he can contact them anytime in case of any problem.” “PugMarg comes with the option of geo-fencing, Laxman Rekha in layman terms. The geo-fencing allows the parents to mark the safe boundaries for their child. If a child crosses the Laxman Rekha the device will become active.

Also, geo-fencing allows the parents to know the exact time a child has entered and stepped out of the safe zone Furthermore, parents make can set as many geo-fences they want like, one for school, tuition class, playground and several other,” says Nikhil Sawansukha, who along with Harish has gone the extra mile to ensure data safety. “One major drawback of tracking devices, data safety, is well taken care by our company, Airavat Corporate Services Limited. Most tracking gadgets in the market today are Chinese, who are known to access and use the consumer data. But for PugMarg we have our own in-built server, which ensures absolute security of the user data. So much so that even we can’t access the data without following lengthy legal protocol. Moreover, the PugMarg App is protected by the mPin technology as an added measure,” Harish informs. “It took us almost 3.5 years to come up with the device.

It’s an IOT with tech that is very new to the market and very superior. We chose the ID card as a design, as they are compulsory almost everywhere nowadays. Schools are most insistent about their students wearing ID cards as well. So it’s a thing most children have become accustomed to wearing. The device is a non-interactive device. It’s not like a watch, which most a children play and tinker with. There is nothing fancy in it to attract a child and has just one SOS button. Since it is passive, the child will get no response from it and will not play with it.

The product has been patented by us and under the make in India scheme, this is a ‘made in Nagpur product’,” adds Harish and says that more than the technological challenges, it’s the mindset which is proving the most difficult problem as yet. Talking about the price of PugMarg, Nikhil says it comes down to less than the cost of a chocolate. “PugMarg is a highly durable product and has a life of nearly 5 years, with no maintenance cost involved.

Priced at Rs 4900, which if divided over the 5 year period comes to less Rs 1.75 per day, which is less than the price of the chocolate! “Child safety was never more affordable than this. It was for this very reason we are getting an overwhelming response from parents. Everyone agrees that it’s a great product and want it for their children. When such a cutting edge security is within reach, at such an affordable there shouldn’t be room for any hesitation from any quarters,” the duo says on the concluding note.
