33 crore tree plantation programme begins today

The ambitious 33 crore tree plantation programme will begin in Maharashtra from July 1 with Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister, inaugurating the main function at Anandvan, Warora tehsil in Chandrapur district at 9.30 am. Sudhir Mungantiwar, Forest Minister, who took initiative in plantation of a total of 50 crore in the State two years ago, will be the chief guest. The government started the massive 50 crore tree plantation programme from 2017 with planting of four crore seedlings and then 13 crore saplings in 2018. This year, the government will plant 33 crore seedlings to complete 50 crore tree plantation figure. Forest Department, Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra, Social Forestry, government’s other departments, municipal bodies, gram panchayats, educational institutions, green army, youths, women and citizens have been participating actively in the programme since last two years. The government had also planted two crore seedlings in 2016 in a single day that prompted Mungantiwar to undertake the massive tree plantation programme till this year.
 
The 33 crore afforestation programme is beginning on July 1and conclude on September 30. Meanwhile, Forest Department has organised a function to inaugurate tree plantation programme in the city on Monday in front of W Building, near Water Treatment Plant, Mihan, at 8 am. The programme has been organised in cooperation with Maharashtra Airport Development Company. Chandrashekhar Bawankule, In-charge Minister for Nagpur district, will be the chief guest while Dr Parinay Fuke, Minister of State for Forest, Nanda Jichkar, Mayor, Nisha Swarkar, President, Nagpur Zilla Parishad, MP Krupal Tumane, MP Dr Vikas Mahatme and legislators will be the guests of honour. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Divisional Commissioner, Suresh Kakani, CMD, Mihan India Limited, and Umesh Kumar Agrawal, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Head of Forest Force), will be prominently present. In the meantime, Dr Prabhu Nath Shukla, Deputy Conservator of Forest, Nagpur, informed that the Forest Department opened ten centres and two mobile centres.
 
The centres are located at: Hi tech nursery, Seminary Hills, Shri Ganesh Mandir Tekdi, Meetha Neem Baba Durgah, near Zero Mile, Civil Lines, IT Park, Deekshabhoomi, Sai Mandir, Wardha Road, Reshimbag ground, Timber Bhavan, Lakadganj, Yashwant Stadium, Dhantoli and Besa Chowk, Nagpur. The citizens will get small sapling at the rate of Rs 8 and plant at Rs 40, added Shukla.
