CM asks officials to expedite distribution of ownership rights to slum-dwellers

Government mulling over a policy regarding slums on private lands, says Fadnavis 
 
Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister, called a review meeting at Ramgiri here on Sunday and asked the officials of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Revenue Department, and Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT) to expedite the task of distribution of ownership titles to eligible slum-dwellers. Fadnavis took stock of the progress of of distribution of ownership rights to eligible slum-dwellers. As many as 100 slums are on Revenue Department land.
 
The information regarding slum-dwellers has been collected in 52 slums. Besides, total 4,700 applications have been received from various parts of the city for ownership rights. Of these, 3,900 applicants have been found eligible for distribution of ownership rights and their list is ready. Fadnavis asked the officials to chalk out a time-bound programme and distribute ownership rights to eligible slum-dwellers. There are total 13 slums on NMC land. Survey has been completed in these slums. As far as slums on private lands are concerned, Fadnavis said, the Government is mulling over a policy in this regard. The owners of private lands concerned will get Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and the ownership rights will be granted to eligible slum-dwellers.
 
While distributing ownership rights to slum-dwellers on Government, NMC or NIT lands, the land title should be in the name of NMC and then the civic body should carry out distribution of ownership rights to eligible slum-dwellers, the Chief Minister said. He asked NMC to submit a proposal in this regard. Also, he said, Municipal Commissioner should co-ordinate with Revenue Department and NIT and submit information regarding distribution of ownership rights after taking stock of the progress in 15 days.
 
He asked the officials concerned to accord priority to distribution of ownership rights to slum-dwellers in Vikas Nagar, Motha Indora, Shiv Nagar, Chunabhatti etc. Abhijit Bangar, Municipal Commissioner; Sanjay Bangale, corporator; Leena Budhe of Centre for Sustainable Development and others were present in the meeting.
