Farm loans of Rs 775.80 cr distributed to farmers in distt

70,156 farmers in Nagpur district get loan waiver of Rs 434.52 crore 
 
As against the farm loan distribution target of Rs 979 crore, so far, loans of Rs 775.80 crore have been disbursed to 24,953 farmers in Nagpur district. “The banks should meet the target by organising loan camps in villages,” said Ashwin Mudgal, District Collector, while addressing the officials in a meeting called to review farm loan disbursement.
 
D K Singh, Assistant Manager of Reserve Bank of India (RBI); Maithili Kowe, District Development Manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD); Sujata Gandhi, Deputy Collector; Vivek Ilme, Project Director; Milind Shende, District Superintending Agriculture Officer; Ajay Kadu, District Deputy Registrar (Co-operatives), were prominent among those present in the meeting. Addressing the officials, Mudgal said that sowing operations in Kharif season had started and farmers needed loans for procurement of seeds, fertilisers etc. Hence, the nationalised and private banks should organise camps in villages and meet the farm loan distribution target given to them.
 
The previous year, target for farm loan distribution was set at Rs 1,066 crore. Of this, only Rs 260.65 crore loan was distributed to 20,765 farmers. It was only 19 per cent of the target. This year, various banks have disbursed 28 per cent of loan target. The bank-wise details of farm loan distribution, as per the official press release, are as follows: Bank of Maharashtra -- Rs 34.09 crore (42 per cent of target met), Bank of India -- Rs 81.10 crore (40 per cent), Bank of Baroda -- Rs 22.47 crore (35 per cent), Punjab National Bank -- Rs 18.93 crore (37 per cent); HDFC Bank -- Rs 12.94 crore (30 per cent), IDBI Bank -- Rs 2.80 crore (29 per cent).
 
However, the press release stated, following banks registered low disbursement of farm loan: UCO Bank and Central Bank -- 16 per cent each, State Bank of India -- 13 per cent, Union Bank -- seven per cent, and Allahabad Bank -- nine per cent. Mudgal asked these banks to speed up farm loan distribution. Nagpur District Central Co-operative Bank Limited distributed Rs 35 crore of farm loans, which was 35 per cent of the target given to it. Rural Banks met 38 per cent of their target by distributing farm loans of Rs 8.79 crore. As far as loan waiver is concerned, total 70,156 farmers in Nagpur district have got waiver of Rs 434.52 crore, stated the official press release. On the occasion, the District Collector released a booklet on district credit plan. Earlier, Sharad Barapatre, Manager of District Lead Bank, informed the officials in the meeting about farm loan distribution by various banks.
