Students’ battle for UG admission continues

Though it was Sunday but most of college campuses were filled with hustle and bustle since morning. Aspirants from different cities and areas having seat allotment were lined up outside colleges till late evening hours. Either private or Government College, huge rush of students witnessed. As applicants having seat allotment for undergraduate courses are left with only one day to confirm their admission with fee submission, Department of Higher Education (DHE) directed to keep the help centers even on Sunday. Students have also complained about the mismanagement and problems at the help centers and college desk while confirming their admission.
 
They said that they have to queue for five to six hours without water for fee submission and document verification. There were also few students who failed to confirm their admission with fee submission due to server failure and rush of candidates. Many students returned to their home empty hand on the first day even after aware of the fact that they are left with two more days to confirm admission on given seat. For Nutan College, 1,235 applicants have got their seat allotment for BA, BCom and BSc subjects but there are only four help centers at the campus. DHE has allotted 1.85 lakh seats in first round for 1250 colleges across State.
 
All these candidates have been called to confirm their admission by July 1. The department has registered more than two lakhs applicants for the first round of counselling. After concluding the first round of admission, status of vacant seats will be released on July 3. Second round of document verification for UG will be held on July 4. Second round of seats will be allotted to the applicants on July 15 According to DHE, there are 1,85,018 seat allotment including 1,01,543 for girls and 83,475 for boys. There are 44,010 allotments to general category, 82,412 to Other Backward Caste, 33,095 to Schedule Caste and 25,502 to Schedule Tribes. Besides, online registration of PG programme has been concluded on Sunday on July 8, PG seats will be allotted to the applicants.
 
After concluding the first round of admissions, status of vacant seats will be released on July 13. Second round of document verification for PG seats will be held on July 13. Second round of seats will be allotted to the applicants on July 23. After concluding the two rounds of admission, DHE will conduct college level counselling. For college level counselling, DHE will be releasing status of vacant seats in each college on July 22 and 29 for UG and PG respectively.
 
The department has decided to conclude the UG admissions by August 8 and PG admissions by August 14. BA course remained first choice of applicants: This year in first round of seat allotment, BA course remained first choice of applicants. There are 45 percent applicant having seat allotment for BA courses while in BSc, 35 percent seats have been allotted. For BCom there is 18 percent seat allotment. 1,50,263 applicants have been allotted seats as per their first choice while 23,095 candidates got seat allotment as per their second choice.
