‘I-T collection of over 12 pc across CG is encouraging’

“THE growth rate of Income Tax collection of over 12 per cent across Chhattisgarh against 2 per cent recorded at the national-level is encouraging and the balance target will be achieved in within few months,” said Member (A & J) and Zonal Member of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) P K Dash. He was addressing the media here on Wednesday. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT) Raipur S S S B Ray, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) A K Chauhan and CCIT (Indore) D P Haokip were also present on the occasion. While talking to the mediapersons, Member (A &J) and Zonal Member of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) P K Dash said “Tax collection target of Rs 6,093 crore is being set for the current financial year 2019-20 for Chhattisgarh.
 
The Taxmen have done excellent work recording a growth rate of more than 12 per cent in tax collection. Looking at the 2 per cent tax collection at the national-level in the current fiscal, the records in Chhattisgarh is very encouraging and the remaining target would be achieved in the coming months”. He further said that South Eastern Coalfield Limited (SECL) is the highest payer of taxes in the state. So, strong focus should be on collecting taxes from the other uncapped IT payer option to reduce dependence on SECL in Chhattisgarh.
 
The IT Department has introduced new initiatives to make the filing of Income Tax simple. Besides e-filing of returns, cashless assessment will start this year wherein an assessee will not have to visit IT office for filing the return. However, an IT official can talk with the assessee for further queries or any other details through video conferencing. Similarly, it has been proposed in the Union Budget 2019 that taxpayers who do not own a PAN card can file IT returns with Aadhaar card will be an added advantage for the assessee, the Zonal Member of CBDT added.
 
The IT Department will also introduce Pan-India Central Action Plan which will focus on how to provide additional services to the IT payee, meeting of tax consultants will be convened each month and senior IT officials will visit schools and interact with students on awareness of IT payment and its importance in nation building. Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh) A K Chauhan said that IT Department will celebrate Income Tax Day (Aayakar Diwas) in Bhopal and Raipur, and the slogan for FY 2019-20 is ‘Kar data ka yogdaan, mera Bharat bane mahaan’. A 10-point programme is being planned for the IT Day which will include free medical check-up camp, blood donation camp, plantation drive, adoption of schools, tax payers who sincerely pay income tax will be felicitated and outstanding IT officials will be awarded during the celebration, he added. Focusing on the review meeting, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax S S S B Ray said that an interaction session was held with Chartered Accountants, members and office bearers of Income Tax Bar Association, Tax practitioners and tax payers.
