Ideally in today’s situation it was expected of Congress Party to undertake membership drive in a bid to reach out to masses. However, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in spite of winning massive mandate wants to further reach out to citizens and make them part of a progressive India, stated Shivraj Singh Chouhan, National Convenor, Member Drive. Congress Party is currently a sinking ship and the Captain instead of staying put has chosen to abandon and its ripple effects are seen nationwide. Perhaps the wishes of real Gandhi (Mahatma) that of dissolving the Congress Party would be fulfilled by fake Gandhi, he retorted during a press conference in city on Thursday.

On tour of Maharashtra to review party’ ambitious membership drive, Chouhan said BJP believes it has still to reach its peak. We are still weak in States of West Bengal, Kerala, Punjab, and other few regions and our concentration is to draft more and more number of people to BJP’s fold and hence the membership drive. BJP on its own have won 300 seats and NDA has got 353 seats during the general elections but success has not gone to our heads and our feet remains firmly on ground and hence we are trying to further broadbase our reach to all sections of society. Unlike Congress Party, our leaders did not went on holiday despite landslide win and remained focussed on fulfilling aspirations of masses.

The spate of resignations in Congress is due to its own doing and Chouhan in reply to querry brushed aside aspersions on BJP. The Karnataka Government is reduced to minority and should resign forthwith and has not moral grounds to continue. The alliance was never issue based nor binded by any ideology and hence difference arose and its tottering now. To another querry, Chouhan saw no double standards in criticising Congress for favouring dynasty and yet taking dig at Rahul Gandhi when he has resigned from post of President. We have set target of six crores new members in additional of earlier 11 crores. He also urged Chief Justice of India (CJI) to ensure that all appeals of convicts in rape cases should be dealt in fast track courts to ensure latter are hanged for their brutal crimes.

This would ensure that deterrent of law remains in force as today even after conviction in Sessions court the process in High Court, Supreme Court and mercy appeal to President leads to inordinate delay. Under his Chief Ministership the BJP Government in Madhya Pradesh had enacted a law recommending capital punishment to convicts in rape of minor children. Ajay Sancheti, ex-MP, Dr Milind Mane, MLA, Prof Anil Sole and Girish Vyas, both MLCs, Pravin Datke, President, BJP, Nagpur city unit, Dr Rajiv Potdar, President, BJP, Nagpur District (Rural) unit and others were also present at the press conference.
