Youth falls to death from 110-ft flyover

A youth riding bike sans helmet died after his bike skidded and he fell off railing of a flyover from a height of 100 feet on Thursday evening. Two of his friends escaped with injuries while the deceased had flung to the other side of flyover at Gandhi Nagar area. According to investigation officer ASI Rakesh Sharma, the deceased was identified as Deepak Kahar alias Gyarsilal, 22, son of Paramlal, a resident of Sector 11 in Gandhi Nagar area. He was a cook in canteen at 3 EME centre and was unmarried.
 
The Pulsar bike he was riding which he borrowed from a friend also did not have a registration number. The two injured persons riding pillion on bike were identified as Nilesh and Rajaram, who also live in the same area. They were friends and were heading towards Data Colony at Lalghati from Gandhi Nagar at the time, the mishap occurred. The incident occurred at the flyover that links the Asaram Bapu trisection to airport road around 3:45 pm. The three persons were coming from airport road and were heading towards Lalghati when the bike, they were riding skidded near a curve and the rider fell on the road from there.
 
The height of the flyover is over 100 feet and the rider sustained serious injuries after he fell. Onlookers informed 108-ambulance and it was said that the service arrived late. The youth was declared brought dead in the hospital by doctors. The flyover is being developed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), locals have been opposing its design that they say has claimed three lives in different accidents. A lab technician, a banker and now this youth have fallen prey to the faulty design of the flyover, said ASI Sharma.
