Mayor performs bhoomipujan for first electric bus charging station

“Nagpur is making all-round progress with the futuristic vision of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister, and able leadership of Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister. ‘Tejaswini’ electric buses are being launched to ensure eco-friendly transport and empower women. The bhoomipujan of electric bus charging station, which is the first such station in Vidarbha region, is one more step towards making Nagpur a well-developed city,” said Nanda Jichkar, Mayor.
 
Jichkar was speaking after performing bhoomipujan of the electric bus charging station near Harihar Mandir in East Nagpur on Friday. Krishna Khopde, MLA; Pradeep Pohane, Chairman of Standing Committee; Tanaji Wanve, Leader of Opposition; Jitendra alias Bunty Kukde, Chairman of Transport Committee; Samita Chakole, Chairperson of Nehru Nagar Zone; Rajesh Ghodpage, Nitin Sathawane, Rupa Roy, Manisha Dhawade, Vaishali Rohankar, Kanta Rarokar, Manisha Atkare, Deepak Wadibhasme, all of them corporators; Shivaji Jagtap, Transport Manager; G Nataraj, Deputy Manager of Olectra Greentech Ltd were present prominently on the occasion.
 
Addressing the gathering, Mayor said that ‘Tejaswini’ bus service would soon be launched for women. It will be first such city bus service in Vidarbha region. She expected that the driver and conductor of these buses would be women. As far as electric bus charging station is concerned, she said that it was in tune with the national vision to
replace all petrol or diesel based vehicles with electric vehicles by the year 2030.
 
Khopde said that Nagpur was on path of becoming a model of development in the country. Jitendra Kukde spoke on the city bus service and various schemes run for citizens. He reiterated the budget announcement of providing free city bus travel for the women members of police/military martyr’s family. He informed the audience that the work of electric bus charging station would be completed by July 31. It would be first such station in Vidarbha and only eighth in the entire country.
 
Jagtap conducted the proceedings of the programme and Pimpurde proposed a vote of thanks.
