How long will Chhattisgarh reel under Naxal violence?
   Date :15-Jul-2019

How long we will keep paying tributes to the martyrs killed by the Maoists? Many valuable lives of security personnel, political personalities and innocent tribal villagers have fallen victims to the Maoist violence and now people want that such unwanted violence and blood shed should come to a halt.

If the Government figures are any indications, Left Wing Extremism has engulfed approximately 125 districts spread in seven states. Chhattisgarh is facing this problem since 1980 and due to prevailing LWE menace, security personnel, common people mostly tribal, former Union Minister, former Ministers, former Leader of Opposition, both sitting and former MLAs and public representatives have sacrificed their lives. Unfortunately there is no sign of end to the LWE menace, which is matter of concern. The stakeholders will have to give utmost priority to this menace and take effective step to end it.

The second Session (Monsoon Session) of the fifth Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, commenced from July 12 paying tributes to former Mahasamund Legislator in erstwhile Madhya Pradesh Assembly Late Santosh Kumar Agrawal, former BJP Legislator from Dantewada Late Bhima Mandavi and two-time former Takhatpur MLA and former Bilaspur Mayor Late Balram Singh Thakur. Former BJP Legislator from Dantewada Late Bhima Mandavi, was a young flamboyant Legislator, who’s killed by Maoists by triggering an IED blast on April 9 this year near Shyamgiri village in Dantewada.

While paying tributes to Late Mandavi, former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, former Ministers Brijmohan Agrawal and Ajay Chandrakar, former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, MLA Dharamjit Singh, BSP Leader Keshav Chandra along with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ravindra Chaubey took up the issue and resentment against LWE violence was visible from their speech. Left Wing Extremism flourished in Chhattisgarh in the eighties during the time of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh. Starting from three blocks it spread to three districts and then to 14 districts in the state. Despite over 70 CRPF personnel were martyred in Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh in one single incident this apart killings of security personnel in regular intervals, political leaders, common people, went on without any leverage.

Chhattisgarh inherited the LWE, the then government believed that decentralization of governance would bring solution to this menace and thus 27 districts were carved out of existing nine districts but the problem continued. Now both the political parties must realize that its high time they take up this issue jointly instead of accusing each other and find a concrete solution to cap this problem once and for all. There is solution to every problem and many a times the elected House in Parliament and Assembly has proved their mettle in solving several grave issues of public interest. Along with the Centre, if all affected states take this problem as a grave issue of internal security and carry out sincere initiative, which is expected, there is no reason that this menace could not be eliminated completely.
