MPCB issues closure notices to 32 polluting industries

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has issued closure notices to 32 polluting industries in Nagpur Division, reveals response to a Right to Information (RTI) query by activist Abhay Kolarkar. Kolarkar had sought information regarding action taken by MPCB against polluting industries in Nagpur Division. Hema Deshpande, Information Officer and Sub-Regional Officer, MPCB, Nagpur, informed Kolarkar in response to application filed under RTI Act that closure notices were issued to total 32 industries. These include three industries from Wardha district, one from Gondia, and 28 from Nagpur district.
 
 
These industries include those in extrusion, stone crushing, tiles, polymer, infrastructure, renewable energy, fuel, agriculture, packaging, spices, iron bars etc. Further, MPCB informed Kolarkar that it had forfeited bank guarantee of 18 industries.
 
 
The total amount of bank guarantee involved was Rs 69,00,000/-. These 18 industries included 12 from Nagpur district, three Wardha district, and two from Bhandara district. The industries are in steel, drugs, nutrient, textiles, paper, iron bars, technology, infrastructure, engineering, and power sectors. Six of the industries from Nagpur district are from Butibori industrial estate alone.
