G-Com to support NMC for promoting internship, mentorship of young innovators

Impressed by initiative of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) in promoting innovation, Governing Body of Global Covenant of Mayors (G-Com) expressed readiness to support former for promoting internship and mentorship of young innovators. Mayor Nanda Jichkar who was in Paris to attend the meeting of Board of Directors of G-Com during last week said the Mayor Innovation Award concept was highly appreciated at Paris meet. Further the Board said if civic body wants to tap into projects proposed by innovators through Mayor's Innovation Council, then they are ready to support such future endeavors.
The Mayor Innovation Council, the first such step by any civic body of country, is aimed at promoting research among students and youth and utilise their ideas for making city more sustainable and environment friendly. Started last year, the awards bestows recognition on young researchers, giving them break and tapping their innovations for putting to use in daily life. And Mayor is the only one from entire South Asia given seat on the Board.
The Board meeting was held on June 26 and 27 and Michael Bloomberg, President, Maros Sefcovic, Christiana Figueres, Mayor of Akra city of Ghana-Mohd. Adjei Sowh, Morocco's Shef Chohahin's Mayor Mohd. Sefiani, Eckart Wurzne, Mayor of Hidelberg city of Germany, Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris city of France, Bill Peduto, Mayor of Pittsburgh city of USA, and Amanda Eichel, Executive Director, G-Com, attended the meet. The G-Com Board also finalised the forthcoming events on environment and energy to be held during the year ahead.
This includes C-40 Mayors Summit, Seoul Mayors Forum, UGLG World Congress, Cop-25. The meet also seralised the issues to be taken up like giving preference to Innovate4Cities, Data4Cities, Invest4Cities. Similarly, Mission Innovation Partnership, Student Energy Partnership, Cities and Climate Science Partnership, Cities and Climate Partnership, Cities and Climate Science Conference, Research and Innovation Technical would also be subsequently discussed at these conferences.
Also in future a data system of cities should be prepared from point of view of commercial development. Mayor informed about the ongoing projects under by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) through co-operation of Central and State Government in areas of environment and energy conservation. She showcased a small film about the projects and mainly about Mayor Innovation Council and entries provided by young innovators providing simple solutions.
