QUICK 50
   Date :24-Jul-2019

SINCE taking guard for its second term after an astounding verdict in the general elections, the Modi Government has clearly hit the ground running with quick decisions on national security, setting agendas on delivering welfare schemes, initiatives to boost foreign investments, and initiating reforms in major sectors like railways and labour.

All these will go a long way in welfare of the society, the promise made by Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi in his inaugural speech while assuming the second tenure at Centre. In the words of Information and Broadcasting Minister Mr. Prakash Javadekar, who presented a report card of the Modi Government after completing 50 days in office, “the Government is already walking the talk on promise of rapid development by setting a good pace for reforms as compared with the previous tenure.” The first 50 days have been marked by the speed, skill and scale of decisions that are of national importance.

The Central Government has sent out a clear message to economic fugitives like the promoters of Sandesara Group and jewellers Mr. Nirav Modi and Mr. Mehul Choksi by speeding up action at all levels to bring them to India and face trial. Pressing the gas pedal for action against fugitive economic offenders was imperative to instill a sense of security in the domestic banking system and general populace who see bank as a safe house to park their hard-earned money.

Another welcome decision that was eagerly awaited was the announcement of labour reforms that will benefit almost 50 crore workers and also increase employment opportunities. The industry was badly in need of a booster dose and the set of reforms will inject a fresh lease in the sector to attract investments not only from within the country but also overseas.

Apex industry body ASSOCHAM has hailed the reforms as a positive message across the world about India’s investor-friendly regime. Creation of Jal Shakti Ministry with a mission to reach out to every house by 2024 with assured water is another pathbreaking decision. It will go a long way in solving the haunting water shortage problem. The first 50 days have shown that the Government is ready for another long innings with cracking strokes.
