15 rescued children reunited with their families

July 2 FIFTEEN children who were kept hostage in Olang village near Vijaywada district in Andhra Pradesh were rescued in joint operation of police and district administration. The children were reunited with their families. District Child Protection Officer Jitendra Kumar Baghel said that parents have given written complaint that a contractor lured their children of employment in Vijaywada and is not allowing them to come back.
 
The complaint also included contact number with which they used to talk with their children. The issue was apprised to Collector Chandan Kumar and an action plan was made to rescue the children. A special team of District Child Protection Unit and police was constituted for the purpose and contact number given by parents was kept on surveillance. The latest position of contact indicated in Ongol village in Praksham district. Legal and Supervision Officer Chandra Kishor Baghel, Protection Officer Manisha Sharma, Outreach worker William Tigga from District Child Protection Unit besides SI Shivanand Singh and two constables from police were included in team. Meanwhile, assistance was taken from Collector of Prakasham district. A joint team comprising of said officials and those from Woman and Child Development Department left for Andhra Pradesh.
 
The team met District Child Protection Officer and Joint Collector of Prakasham district and had detailed discussion over the issue. The Joint Collector directed concerned Tehsildar, labour and child protection officials to contact contractor and produce the children in Child Welfare Committee besides taking legal action against contractor. The children were rescued from Praksham district and produced in CWC. Later, they were handed over to Sukma team. Children were reunited with family and appropriate wages was also given to them.
